How to measure yourself against our numbers
Take a top you like, lay it flat, and measure straight across the chest 1 inch below the armpit, then from the highest point of the shoulder seam to the hem. Compare to the chest and length listed on the product page. For bottoms, measure the waistband flat and double it, then measure the inseam from crotch seam to hem.
Tops, laid flat, size medium
| Fit | Chest | Length | |—|—|—| | Standard Crew Tee | 21 in | 28 in | | Heavyweight tees | 22 in | 28.5 in | | Boxy Tee | 23 in | 26 in | | Sweats | 22 to 23.5 in | 27 to 28 in | | Outerwear | 22.5 to 24 in | 25 to 29 in |
Sizes run XS through XXL. Each size up adds 1 inch across the chest and 0.5 inch in length.
Bottoms, size 32
Woven bottoms are labelled by waist in inches and measure 1 inch larger than the label after wash. Fleece and jersey bottoms are labelled S through XL; a medium relaxes to 31 to 32 inches and stretches to 38.
Care
- Jersey, rib, fleece: machine wash cold, tumble dry low. Rib should be dried flat or on low, never hung wet.
- Twill, poplin, canvas: machine wash cold, hang dry. Press on medium if wanted.
- Denim: wash cold inside out, hang dry. Wash less often than you think.
- Quilted jacket: machine wash cold on gentle, closed up, tumble low to loft the batting.
- Cap and beanie: hand wash cold, reshape, dry flat or over a bowl.
Shrinkage
Most garments are washed once at the factory. Expect under 2 percent further shrinkage on jersey and fleece, about 3 percent in length on waffle, and none on rinsed denim if washed cold and hung.
Hardware
Buttons are corozo, a dense palm nut that machine washes without cracking. Zippers are brass from a mill in Pennsylvania. Rivets and shank buttons on denim are copper. Drawcords are flat woven cotton with metal tips.
